Meet Gellibrand client Rory Monaghan, a proud uncle, Bulldog member and Queen fan.
I met Rory Monaghan in early January 2025 when he came to visit team members at Gellibrand’s Withers Street office. We got to talking and he said one of the things he liked most was to listen to music, especially his favourite radio station Gold 104FM. I asked him which acts he liked and he immediately said Queen. I told him I’d seen Queen live.
“With Adam Lambert at Rod Laver Arena?” he said, adding that he’d gone to see Queen there in 2018. “No,” I told him, “I saw Queen in Melbourne with Freddy Mercury.” This news excited Rory. He was keen to know how old I was at the time, who I went with, what the venue was, and whether I got home late. I told him all the facts and we agreed that Queen has some pretty big hits.
Rory was wearing a Bulldogs singlet when I chatted with him. I told him whenever I see a photo of him having fun at a Gellibrand event, he’s usually in Bulldogs gear. He laughed and said he loves the Bulldogs’ colours, goes to all the games he can, and was confident they would make finals in 2025.
“I’m a member twenty years this year,” he told me with a big smile. “I got a certificate. One-hundred years of the club and twenty years for me!”
Rory has also been a ‘member’ of Gellibrand, as a client, for fifteen years and lives at Medfield. He said the best thing about Gellibrand is the service he gets, and he had a simple answer for who his friends are at Gellibrand.
“Everyone!”
Rory has always lived in Melbourne and is close to his family, including his brothers and his nephews.
“They come and visit me. They came for my birthday. Sometimes my brother Emmett lives and works in Queensland, sometimes he works down here. He’s got two houses,” Rory said, adding that he had been on holidays to Queensland.
“I loved going to Movie World and I liked lots of the rides,” he said. I told him I’d been there too, and I asked if he went on the Superman Escape ride. “Yes! It was really fast!”
At home in Melbourne, Rory enjoys going for drives, attending Gellibrand events, going to the gym, heading out to Highpoint Shopping Centre, watching sport on TV, and spending time with his Medfield housemates. I asked him what he hoped for as 2025 gets going and he said more time with his girlfriend, Rachel.
“I see her every Saturday,” he said with another beaming smile. “Me and Rachel – we’re the two hearts!”
