You may not have met Bruce Woods in person, but if you’re a listener to 88.9 WynFM, the City of Wyndham’s local community radio station, you might have heard his voice.

“People say they’ve heard me on radio and they like what I do,” Bruce says.

Every Tuesday, Bruce hosts a program from 12pm-1pm called ‘Off the Wall’, for which he chooses a wide range of music, organises placement of weather and sports reports, and introduces the show.

“I like all kinds of music,” Bruce says when asked which style is his favourite, but he adds that he likes listening most to Magic 1278 on the AM dial. “They play a lot of classic hits.”

Bruce has lived in one of Gellibrand’s shared accommodation houses since 2020 and says he’s happy with the support he’s receiving. He does training and skills development at Mambourin Enterprises twice a week and that’s how he came to be involved at WynFM.

“They asked me if I’d give radio a go and I thought I would,” Bruce says, adding that, along with the music, it’s a great social day with the team at the radio station on Victoria University’s Werribee campus. “We go to the café for morning tea then off to the studio to choose the music.”

Bruce says he also enjoys getting out on excursions, especially to Geelong, with his two housemates whom he describes as “good people”. But there’s no doubt he looks forward to his radio gig every Tuesday.

“During COVID we did it all online so it’s been great to be back in the studio every week this year.”
